Bronchitis
Bronchitis is an inflammation of the air passages that lead to the lungs. Acute bronchitis is a temporary condition that can follow a respiratory infection, while chronic bronchitis is a long-term condition that can develop after injury to the lung passages caused by continual exposure to harmful inhalants. While minor cases of acute bronchitis may resolve themselves after 7 to 10 days, more serious cases can be debilitating and may call for emergency treatment.

Emergency Treatment for Bronchitis
Bronchitis can worsen due to cigarette smoke, pollution, or other lung irritants. Call a doctor or visit an emergency care center if someone exhibits the following symptoms:
- Frequent, severe cough
- Coughing up blood
- High fever or chills that cause shaking
- Low grade fever for three or more days
- Thick, greenish mucus that may have a foul odor
- Shortness of breath or chest pain
Persons who have a chronic illness, such as heart disease or lung disease, should be especially cautious and seek medical attention immediately if they begin to show these symptoms.
