CT Scans
Computed axial tomography, known more commonly as CT imaging or CAT scan, is an advanced form of imaging used in the medical field. These scans are often used on patients who may have internal injuries or abnormalities that cannot be seen from outside of the body. Instead of having to perform investigative surgery to determine what is ailing a patient, a quick CT scan can be performed instead, saving a patient time, money, and allowing him or her to avoid the health risks associated with exploratory surgery.
Common CT Scan Uses
CT scans use X-rays to create an image of internal organs, bones, and tissue that can be analyzed by a radiologist or physician. They create a sharper, more detailed image than those produced by traditional x-ray imaging methods. Some common uses for CT technology include:
- Cancer diagnosis
- Chest and abdomen examination
- Vascular disease diagnosis
- Bone injury detection
- Spine injury detection
These are just some of the many ways that CT imaging is being used today. If you are experiencing chest pain or if you have been injured in an accident, a CT scan may be used to determine the extent of your internal injuries and how best to treat them. At Bellaire Emergency Center, CT scans are one of the advanced technologies available in our Imaging Center to ensure that patients are getting the proper care that they need.
